Dry Mouth - The Root of the Problem - Part 2

At Lechner Dental Group in Delaware, we know that your oral health is imperative to your overall health. Conditions like dry mouth can be the result of underlying health issues. It is important to know what causes this condition so it can be treated appropriately.

What Causes Dry Mouth?
Dry mouth is caused by many different things including medications, anemia, nerve damage,  other health conditions like diabetes, medical treatments like chemotherapy, dehydration, smoking, consuming excess caffeine, and many more things.
 
While any of the above can be causes of dry mouth, the most common is medications. The following is a list of certain medications that can cause dry mouth:
  • Allergy medications (antihistamines-allergies can be difficult to escape in Ohio)
  • Antidepressants
  • Diuretics
  • Pain Killers
  • Blood Pressure medications
