Can a dentist do anything for headaches?

Wednesday, December 31, 2014

Headaches are one of the most common and annoying health ailments. Additionally, treatment is not always easy and could demand a team of health experts that includes physicians, physical therapists, psychologists, and dentists. Headaches seemingly come and go at random, are sometimes harsh, and sometimes dull - they come in all shapes and sizes. Some of the typical causes of headaches are hormones, irregular growths, your brain sending irregular signs to your nerve receptors, muscle function, and more.

Have you often suffered from headaches but have never been able to receive a solution to your problem? If so, you might want to consider consulting your dentist. Oftentimes dentists are educated in treating frequent headaches, if not they can recommend you to someone who is.

The reason your dentist might be successful in solving your headache problem is that they are often triggered by Bruxism, grinding your teeth and clenching your jaw. This causes something called "tension headaches". A dentist can oftentimes utilize a mouthguard or bite splint in order to relax your jaw during the course of the night. Relaxing your jaw will prevent it from grinding your teeth.
